Help 40 farmers from Maharashtra build a livelihood
The cities of Maharashtra, especially in the economically vibrant Mumbai-Pune-Nashik corridor exist in a whole different world from the large swathes of dry land in Marathwada, north Maharashtra and Vidarbha. The most glaring and obvious difference is naturally how accessible water is in the former and how much of a struggle access to this essential necessity for life is in the latter.
Chronic drought for several years combined with shrinking landholding, no access to formal credit and dependence on private moneylenders has made daily living for farmers a struggle so difficult they see suicide as the only way out. And this trend is not reversing. Farmers are continuing to deal with these same realities and they are continuing to kill themselves.
This is one area Shivprabha has been working on over the past 12 years. And in 2017, we launched our Shivprabha Farmers’ Club initiative to help farmers help themselves. Starting with 30 farmers in 2017, we increased this to 50 farmers across 4 districts of Maharashtra in 2018.
With your help, the Shivprabha Farmers’ Club provided financial stability to these farmers, boosted by good crop yield. This year, we want to expand this initiative to reach 100 farmers, saving 100 families from tragedies borne out of economic inequities.
The 50 farmers in our club presently are already on-board with the idea and are willing to finance 10 farmers. We only need support to bring in 40 more farmers to take the club’s total to 100 farmers.
Your support will help us provide micro finance and technological know-how to these farmers which will them break their dependence on money lenders while also boosting their field output, helping them become self-sufficient.
You can adopt a farmer family for just Rs. 15000. Or you can contribute whatever amount you can. Because every single bit matters. An ocean, after all, is made of many individual drops of water.
Farmers, they say, are the founders of civilization. They make it possible for us to eat the food we do. With your help, we can ensure that we give them the thanks they are owed for their service.
